Understanding Yarn Weights
Yarn comes in different thicknesses, known as weights. From lace weight (very thin) to jumbo (extremely thick), the weight determines the hook size you'll need and the drape of the finished fabric.
Natural vs. Synthetic Fibers
Natural fibers like wool, cotton, and alpaca are breathable and warm but can be more expensive and require special care. Synthetic fibers like acrylic are affordable, durable, and easy to wash, making them great for amigurumi and blankets.
Choosing Yarn for Amigurumi
For amigurumi, you generally want a sturdy yarn that won't stretch too much, so the stuffing doesn't show through. Worsted weight acrylic or cotton blends are excellent choices.
